Having to pay to be healthy is extremely f-ed up.  At AOB we try to navigate our capitalist healthcare system with as much integrity as possible.

Our pricing is based on many factors including donations and outside funding, cost of supplies and services we need for your care, and second sources of income for our staff. Over time our pricing may reflect changes in those factors.

Our ideal would be able to expand our services and provide care at AOB full time by providing our staff a living wage but, for now, keeping our pricing low and accessible means limited income for our staff.

We will be upfront with pricing as much as possible and  offer discounted and sliding scale prices as long as we are able to. Donating helps us maintain that.

Let’s talk money

Sliding scALE AS A TOOL FOR ECONOMIC JUSTICE

This model does not solely rely on earned income level as indicator of ability to pay but also considers individual financial burden and experience to address systemic economic inequality.

If the cost of care is still prohibitively high for you but do not meet any of the eligibility criteria for a sliding scale, please contact us about additional payment options.

National Network of Abortion Funds provides financial resources for abortion care

Eligible for sliding scale and discounted rates if you:

  • are unemployed

  • are eligible for public assistance and support children or have other dependents

  • have immigration-related expenses

  • are an elder with limited financial support

  • have been denied work due to incarceration history

  • unhoused or unstable housing

  • regularly have difficulty paying basic needs

  • do not have the ability to take time off without financial burden

  • experience discrimination in hiring or pay level

  • are descended from enslaved people or Native American Indians

Consider paying the full fee if you:

  •  have stable and safe housing

  •  own or lease a car

  •  employed full time

  • may feel stress about meeting my basic needs but still regularly achieve them

  • have some debt but it does not prohibit attainment of basic needs

  • have health insurance

  •  access to financial savings

  •  have some expendable income to use for recreation or entertainment

  •  able to buy some new items

Consider an additional donation if you:

  • work part time or are unemployed by choice, including unemployment due to full-time school in a degree-earning program

  • own the home you live in

  • have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money

  • travel for recreation

  • have access to family money and resources in times of need

  • have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education or gender and racial privilege, class background, etc. (Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power)

Donations help cover the cost of sliding scale and allow us to offer discounted services to those in most need.

The above framework is sourced from Alexis J. Cunningfolk's Green Bottle Method and Little Red Bird Botanicals Sliding Scale Fee
